Sammy Hagar, the raucous Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, has finally received his key to the Las Vegas Strip, to show appreciation for all that he’s done economically for Clark County, Nevada, where Vegas is located.
The ceremony, which was just as rowdy as we all imagined it would probably be, took place yesterday, October 4, in the afternoon. It was held at his Cabo Wabo Cantina, the Strip-adjacent party restaurant in the Miracle Mile Shops at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Because, of course it was.
That’s because one of the things the ceremony was commemorating was the 15th anniversary of the Cantina being open, along with Hagar’s 77th birthday. His “birthday bashes” are notorious, and this year’s is happening for the first time via two sold out sets at Palms Casino Resort. Clark County Commissioner James Gibson presented Hagar with the key, to a crowd of adoring and ready to get down fans.
Hagar’s philanthropic The Hagar Family Foundation has donated upwards of $650,000 to local orginations like the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health and Three Square, among others.
About the receiving the Key, Hagar said:
“Bringing Cabo Wabo Cantina to Las Vegas has made me feel like a local since day one. Cabo Wabo Cantina was created as a place where I could hang out and bring my friends and it has remained the ultimate spot on the Strip for rock ‘n’ roll, killer margaritas and great Mexican food. Through amazing partners, the best team in town and the exceptional Mexican food of Chef Tacho Kneeland, who has been there since day one, Cabo Wabo Cantina is still going strong. I’m grateful to the Clark County Commission, everyone at Cabo Wabo Cantina, and all of Las Vegas for this honor. My experiences here have been some of the most special moments of my life and I couldn’t be more thankful.”
