This is a moment that up until last October long-time Dream Theater fans never thought would happen. On February 7, 2025, the iconic progressive metal band will release a brand new album featuring the classic lineup – yes, including drummer Dave Portnoy – titled Parasomnia. It will be their first with the lineup since 2009 and having listened to the first single “Night Terror,” it’s easy to say that these guys are back.
Featuring eight new songs, with all but two breaking that seven minute mark, Parasomnia is the band’s 16th studio effort. The whole thing was produced by Petrucci, engineered by James ‘Jimmy T’ Meslin, and mixed by Andy Sneap (yes, the Judas Priest guitarist).
As for the album’s first single, “Night Terror,” it’s a fucking beast. As a unit, these guys haven’t forgotten how to work together with Portnoy’s return. If you’re familiar with their previous works, this track feels like their work on albums like Systematic Chaos, but with their more modern sound. It’s just epic and a great sign for what the rest of the album could potentially sound like.
Parasomnia will be released on February 7, but you can preorder your copy today.
If you’re stoked to see this lineup on stage, you will have plenty of chances to do that over the next few months, as they’ve committed to a huge world tour starting later this month. You can find a list of dates, as well as links to get your tickets today, down below.
