It looks like definitely this is the year of new bands of NWOBHM. It’s only February and I’ve already lost count of how many of them I have reviewed. I’ve got to tell you all of them pretty different from each other. Each one representing Metal music the best way they can.
Besides the cool band name, Loänshark bounce from the Old School Heavy Metal to some Speed Metal soul. Of course, there are lots of references to tell here from the art cover inspired on Icon’s “Night of the Crime” or Girlschool’s “Hit and Run” to the album’s tittle “No Sins to Confess” inspired on a tonload of bands. Lyrics and themes are also a great time travel. The band mixes the tough stuff with the most obscure sex references. Pure 1980’s spirit.
Musicwise, “No Sins to Confess” is pure dynamite based on the flamming guitar leads and riffings. The album was planned to make my dear child of the night headbang all the way around. There is no minute left here to take a breath. Only the most pure and electric Old School Heavy Metal at its best speed, velocity, power and glory which makes me think Lögan Heads’ vocals do remind me of Saxon’s Biff Bifford, even though their music does not. Unfortunately, Saxon are not one of the bands’ references. There is also a homage to our beloved page with “Heavy Metal Addicts.” Yeah, I want to believe.
“No Sins to Confess” commences with the shockingly energetic “Electric Shockin’ Waves” – no pun intended. “Machine Gunner” has something of Kiss’ “Love Gun” in its guitar intro. Nah, please, do not tell me you did not feel the same as I did. From it I noticed Loänshark‘s guitar signature which is the fast guitar phrasing full of notes. It ends the same way it started with our homage “Heavy Metal Addicts.”
“No Sins to Confess” will not change Metal music at all, but it is a hell of fun. Just check it out if you are into the spirit of 1980’s Old School Heavy Metal.
