Saber – Lost in Flames Review

Saber – Lost in Flames Review

When I opened up this Saber newest album “Lost in Flames” album I realized one very important, and ironic, thing. To some extent, “Lost in Flames” solved a forty year old puzzle. Many NWOBHM bands were born independent, I mean, not under the umbrela of record companies and their fancy studios where music could be recorded with quality. So, their music was embellish by that raw and crude quality we, metalheads, cherish so much. My dear children of the night who are old enough to have lived the 1980’s golden era of Metal might remember the exact time when those bands started to show to the world and, as a consequence, signed huge contracts with the big record companies. Well, many must remember that those bands came back with albums with fancy production and sparkling images, however, lacking the aggression and blood thirsty that Metal music is known for. The usual response was that their new music was a reflexion of the musical progress they were under. It was a natural conquence of having more resources.

Ok, if I were to compare “Lost in Flames” with “Without Warning,” I would notice Saber did the same thing. From one album to another it’s possible to notice the band’s evolution. It stares me in the face the musical evolution my dear Metal child will check out here with “Lost in Flames.” Saber took an extra care to the details and the songs are much more crafted. On the other hand, there is a tiny lack in aggression. Tiny, but it can be percepted. “Shadow of You” is the track that marks this moment.

Of course, a band as Saber knew how to keep the faith in tracks as “Steel Breaker.” Not only it, but also “Phoenix Rising” keeps the faith with searing guitar riffs, the thunderous bass and the insane fast drumming. Album opener and tittle track “Lost in Flames” plus “Madam Dangerous,” for instance are the tracks that represent Saber’s new phase.

It’s great to see a band that evolves. It’s also great to see a band that is also committed to Metal music. Metal music is all about passion, and we, metalheads, require that passion from our bands. I still see that passion for Metal music in Saber with “Lost in Flames.”

Saber “Lost in Flames” will be released on February 07th via ROAR.
