SHARON OSBOURNE Regrets Preventing OZZY From Auditioning For ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’

On a recent episode of Billy Corgan‘s podcast, “The Magnificent Others,” Sharon Osbourne, wife and longtime manager of Ozzy Osbourne, shared a story about a missed opportunity.

She revealed that Ozzy was once invited to audition for a role in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but she intervened and put a stop to it. Looking back, Sharon now considers this decision to be the biggest mistake she’s ever made in her professional management of the former BLACK SABBATH frontman’s career.

“He got offered to go and read for Pirates of the Caribbean, and I’ve never said this to anyone. And I said no. Now wouldn’t he have been perfect? Because when Johnny [Depp] wanted Keith [Richards] to be a pirate, you remember?”

Sharon was referring to the ROLLING STONES guitarist’s role as Captain Teague, the father of Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Keith Richards took on the role in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007) and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011).

Similarly, Paul McCartney later joined the franchise, appearing as Uncle Jack in the most recent installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017).

Despite his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2019 and the fact that he’s preparing for his final performance with the original BLACK SABBATH lineup later this year, Ozzy‘s career speaks for itself, with or without Captain Teague.
