I was there. This was my first time seeing them live. Metallica at the @#$% Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre!

And Justice For All Tour. Faith No More opened. There were bonfires up in the Lawn area.

    OH, NOTHING….JUST THREE ENCORES!!

    Best Setlist Ever.

I remember it was the END of a MASSIVE tour for them. They were EXHAUSTED and STILL brought it ALL OUT ON STAGE!! I am astonished how DEAD the audience was. Even up front. They would clap for five seconds and go silent. Orange County!

FunFact: On March 11, 1988 – 1 1/2 years BEFORE this concert – I went to see Red Hot Chili Peppers at Cal State Northridge. Epic show. I still have the Set List off the monitor.

James Hetfield was in the crowd, by himself, toward the back, just outside the pit, arms folded – rocking out to RHCP (Uplift Mofo era)

I walked up to him. I can't believe how @#$% tall he was/is. I told him that my metal friend had played me the Master of Puppets LP a couple years prior and that I was grateful.

Up to that time, I ONLY listened to So Cal Punk (Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Germs, Fear, X). My friend – and Metallica – opened me to metal.

James smiled, shook my hand and said: "Cool, man." folded his arms and proceeded to to rock out to "Backwoods".

    Me too. Excellent choice.

    Thanks, James.

The boys' cover of "The Wait" does not get the respect it truly deserves. What an absolute fucking RIPPPPPPPPPPPPPPER.

i went to see theirNA tour in WPG at 2001, it was consider a stop of US tour instead of CA, also it was Jason's last tour as a Metallica member, I think that was one of my biggest bless in life to see him on stage with the band.
