In a recent interview with Chaoszine interview, GHOST mastermind Tobias Forge addressed the recent leak of his 2008 solo recording, Passiflora, which never saw an official release and remains largely unknown.
For years, only two tracks, “House of Affection” and “In Enigma Schiffer,” were accessible, with a physical CD selling for whopping $5,434 in 2024.
Recently, a YouTube user uploaded 41 minutes of music, purportedly the full Passiflora album, featuring Forge‘s vocals, which you can listen below.
Passiflora emerged from a period of intense musical exploration for Tobias Forge, bridging the gap between his death metal roots in REPUGNANT and the rise of GHOST in 2010. This era saw him delve into diverse genres, resulting in projects like the atmospheric rock of MAGNA CARTA CARTEL and the post-punk sounds of SUBVISION.
“I remember that when I wrote the songs and I had recorded them, I was a little bit irritated that I had not written them in a key that was ideal for my singing. It’s amateur mistakes,” Forge now said (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). “There are some songs on [GHOST‘s debut album, 2010’s] Opus [Eponymous] that are like that. I should have written them in another key. I should have detuned them to more fully… And it’s not too late; I can do that.”
“I think Passiflora was definitely a — it’s a super-ambitious record. I was so filled with emotions and creativity. I had a real vision for that record. I had a real vision for that band. It literally really didn’t go anywhere. So when that happens… If you write a love letter and that just disappears into the void, you would just try to distance yourself from it as soon as possible and, and that’s what I felt.”
On April 25th, GHOST is set to drop their new album, Skeletá, through Loma Vista Recordings. Fans can already listen to the first single, “Satanized”, which was released earlier in April.
