GHOST’s TOBIAS FORGE Discusses Recently Leaked 2008 Passiflora Solo Album

The story of Ghost frontman Tobias Forge‘s unreleased 2008 solo album Passiflora has been a wild one recently. The album – only released on a handmade CDr – sold a few times on Discogs for several thousand dollars in the past year before ultimately being banned by the site. The album then eventually leaked online for the first time ever, which as of the writing of the article is still available below.

Now in an interview with Chaoszine, Forge opened up about Passiflora and the fact that it still remains unreleased. Long story short, Forge loved the album as it was being made, but ultimately tried to distance himself from it after it never got off the ground.

“I remember that when I wrote the songs and I had recorded them, I was a little bit irritated that I had not written them in a key that was ideal for my singing. It’s amateur mistakes. There are some songs on [Ghost‘s debut album] Opus [Eponymous] that are like that. I should have written them in another key. I should have detuned them to more fully… And it’s not too late; I can do that.”

Forge continued: “I think Passiflora was definitely a — it’s a super-ambitious record. I was so filled with emotions and creativity. I had a real vision for that record. I had a real vision for that band. It literally really didn’t go anywhere. So when that happens… If you write a love letter and that just disappears into the void, you would just try to distance yourself from it as soon as possible and, and that’s what I felt.”

While Passiflora isn’t available anywhere and it doesn’t seem like it’s gonna be anytime soon, Ghost‘s new record Skeletá is out April 25. Pre-orders for Skeletá are available here. Ghost‘s world tour also kicks off on April 15. Ghost will kick the tour off at the AO Arena in Manchester, UK and (so far) wrap things up on September 25 at the Palacio De Los Deportes in Mexico City, MX. Love it. Tickets are available here.
