CHAINED SAINT’s Rhythm Section Names The Bassists & Drummers That Inspire Them

Chained Saint bassist Sebastian De Avila and drummer Cameron Cottrell sat down with Metal Injection to name their top five biggest influences on their respective instruments. Check those out below and check out Chained Saint right here.

Peter Steele

Peter Steele has always been a major influence on me ever since I started playing bass and is the reason I play bass with a pick. His dark and melodic bass lines in “Anesthesia” and “Wolf Moon” have always gravitated me.

Sean Beasley

Sean Beasley is an absolute monster of a bass player. His brutal bass tone along with his technical skills and groove on songs like Your “Shepherd’s Commandment” and “In The Trenches” make him stand out for me.

Frank Bello

Frank Bello and the album Among The Living was a big reason on why I wanted to play bass. His stage presence and energy was so infectious to me and his tone on those songs always caught my eye.

Steve DiGiorgio

Steve DiGiorgio is another technical beast that made me want to start playing bass. I especially love his fretless bass sound on on songs like “Overactive Imagination” and “The Philosopher”.

Andy Rourke

Andy Rourke playing is also very influential for me and in my opinion is one of the most underrated bassists. I’ve always loved the way his bass lines perfectly complimented Johnny Marr‘s guitar riffs on songs like “Barbarism Begins at Home”.

Josh Freese

The first time I listened to a perfect circle and heard pet I was hooked on the drumming right away. I love his whole feel and playing style of that record.

Dave Grohl

The first song I learned on drums was in “In Bloom.” Dave Grohl has always been one of my most influential drummers and one of the greatest drummers of all time.

Byron McMackin

Pennywise has always been an influence on me. Byron‘s drum fills have always stood out to me and have always loved his playing style.

Igor Cavalera

The drumming on Arise changed my drumming perspective and feel for drums. Igor is all around one the best and most influential metal drummers.

Dave Lombardo

Dave Lombardo has always been an influence on me. He is the godfather of double bass. His drumming is what wanted me to buy a double pedal and learning double bass.
