Unidad Trauma – Paradigma Egocéntrico Fatalista Review

Here we’ve got Unidad Trauma with their forthcoming EP “Paradigma Egocéntrico Fatalista,” which, by the way, is “a concept record based on a horrifying true case which took place in the 90’s in Japan. Hisachi Ouchi, the protagonist of this story lived through 83 days in a rapidly decaying body which had been exposed to nuclear radiation. Each song is a chapter of this story told through the eyes of the doctors, the patient and expressed through the mind of Unidad Trauma.” This is the first time for me with a subject like this.

There are two sides of the coin with a band as Unidad Trauma and an album as “Paradigma Egocéntrico Fatalista.” First of all, the uncanny subject that seems to be the main thematic of the band. As I said before, it is the first time I run into such thematic. Yeah, I know some Death Metal bands have an obssession with some kind of unknown, rare, or weird sicknesses, however, that’s what it is, an obssession with the strange. Not Unidad Trauma. Their main interest is in underground medicine. Well, first time for me as well.

Second of all, “Paradigma Egocéntrico Fatalista” is musically very varied. “Paradigma Egocéntrico Fatalista” is supposed to be an EP, but it does not sound as one. I mean, it sounds as a full length due to the extreme sonancy varietion of the songs. Unidad Trauma were able to blend many Metal features in the album and not only Extreme Metal’s as many bands do. I dare to say the band is influenced by such diverse bands as Suicidal Tendences in “Cap. 1 – Del Tratamiento Al Tormento” to Metal Church as in “Cap. 6 – A Su Merced (Día 83)” and, of course, Old School Death Metal which is the foundation or, better yet, inspiration because it seems to me Unidad Trauma do not follow any foundation. From where I am standing, the impression I get is that they fit each song to its subject. Giving “Paradigma Egocéntrico Fatalista” second thoughts, the music in here reminds a lot Suicidal Tendences with a gutural vocal without the shredding guitars.

I’d say “Paradigma Egocéntrico Fatalista” is a very interesting album. I recommend my dear fan to pay close attention to the instrumentals because, in general, they are totally out of the expected as in “Cap. 4 – 3 Veces 3 (Dia 59)” or the grand finale “Conclusión – Paradigma Egocéntrico en una Intervención Médica.” Fun guaranteed.

Unidad Trauma “Paradigma Egocéntrico Fatalista” will ber released on April 17th via Concreto Records.
