Vio-Lence Frontman Sean Killian Wants to Experiment More on their Next Record

Vio-Lence frontman Sean Killian is saying fuck it to genre norms, as he wants to expand the band’s musical versatility on their upcoming record.

While it’s only been three years since the group shared their five-track EP Let the World Burn, fans have yet to see Vio-Lence return with a full-length project since their iconic thrash metal record Nothing to Gain in 1993.

Speaking in an interview with Oran O’Beirne at Overdrive.ie, Killian shared a bit about where the band are at with touring and new music:

“So, we’re just doing this tour this year, and then, once we get home — we’ll be back here May 10th or 11th — we’ll start working on new music. Ira’s got some stuff written, and I’ve talked to a couple other musicians that I’ve worked with in the past, live on stage, that are interested in contributing.”

Speaking on the album’s overall sound, he said:

“I kind of wanna have something a little bit more broad than what Vio-Lence has been in the past, where it’s just straight thrash metal and it’s constantly in your face. And I wanna have parts of that, but a lot of my influences back [in the day], and still today, were punk rock. I really don’t listen to metal much. I do listen to a lot of dark wave music and post-punk and stuff like that.”

Earlier this year, the band had a large revamp of its lineup, featuring near additions, guitarist Max Georgiev (ex-Falling in Reverse), bassist Jeff Salgado and drummer Nick Souza (Hatriot). Killian remains, and guitarist Ira Black made a return.

This April, Vio-Lence officially kicked off their ‘Oppressing the Masses’ tour, starting with a show at The Underworld in Camden, London. There are still plenty of dates left for their Europeon tour, and the band is treating fans to songs from their latest record, Let the World Burn.
