Earlier today, guitar company D’Addario and Co. has shared an interview with Megadeth guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari. The interview sees the Finnish guitarist discuss the process of joining Megadeth, his musical influences, Finland’s metal culture, the future of guitar and more.
Mäntysaari is an accomplished guitarist and a shredder like no other. He has credits alongside major metal outfits from Wintersun to Imperanon and Smackbound, to list a few. He officially joined Megadeth in September 2023 and has been touring with them ever since.
The newly surfaced interview with D’Addario dates back to 2024, ahead of Megadeth’s show at Jones Beach Theatre in New York, for their Destroy All Enemies tour. During the interview, Mäntysaari shared some insights on what got him into the metal scene.
“Heavy metal was what inspired me to pick up the guitar. Iron Maiden classics, Dio, Megadeth, as well. Megadeth was one of the first bands that I heard when I was getting into metal. I tried to go with diverse influences, I played a little bit in a punk band. Fusion guitarists are some of my favourites, like Greg Howe, Guthrie Govan and Brett Garsed.”
As for Megadeth’s next steps, Mäntysaari says:
“We’ve been planning on making a new Megadeth album. That’s going to be really exciting. I’ve been gathering some riff ideas and we’ve been talking with the band, that everybody could contribute. So, that’s going to be really interesting. I’m looking forward to recording the album next year.”
