METALLICA’s ROBERT TRUJILLO And KIRK HAMMETT Perform RUSH’s ‘La Villa Strangiato’ At Toronto Show

In a nod to their Canadian hosts, METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett surprised the Toronto crowd at their April 26th Rogers Centre show with an unexpected rendition of RUSH‘s iconic “La Villa Strangiato.” Footage of this special performance can be seen below.

METALLICA‘s recent tours have featured a unique and entertaining addition: the “doodles.” These stripped-down interpretations, usually just Hammett on guitar and Trujillo on bass (sometimes with Trujillo singing), see the duo covering songs by their musical heroes – often selections far outside METALLICA‘s typical metal repertoire. Their rendition of RUSH‘s “La Villa Strangiato” was one such memorable “doodle.”

METALLICA recently announced they will take the stage as part of the after-race concerts at the 2025 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on December 6. The event will be held on Yas Island, near the UAE’s capital, Abu Dhabi. Just three days earlier, on December 3, the band will make their long-awaited debut in Bahrain with a performance at the Beyon Al Dana Amphitheatre.

The band also recently announced their new film, Metallica Saved My Life, directed by award-winning Jonas Åkerlund. The movie explores the impact of METALLICA on their fans, including the band members, and will be released as a work-in-progress this spring and summer.
