Through their foundation All Within My Hands (AWMH), METALLICA has donated $40,000 to Toronto’s Daily Bread Food Bank. The contribution will support the organization’s efforts to combat the city’s growing hunger crisis.
Neil Hetherington, CEO, Daily Bread Food Bank says: “We want to wholeheartedly thank the members of Metallica for this incredibly generous donation. Right now, far too many are struggling, and these funds will help support food bank clients as the hunger crisis in our city reaches an all-time high. This gift means even more considering the band has a history of donating to the Daily Bread cause.”
Food insecurity in Toronto has reached critical levels, prompting a state of emergency declaration in December. The 2024 Who’s Hungry report indicates that more than one in ten Toronto residents are now using food banks, double the number from two years ago. Recent data from Daily Bread shows the scale of the crisis, with client visits to their member food banks soaring to 903,350 in the first three months of 2025, a fourfold jump from the 215,748 visits in the same period of 2020.
Renée Richardson, director of philanthropy for AWMH comments: “Learning that there is widespread food insecurity in Toronto reminds us just how many people are faced with making tough decisions and need assistance. We are thankful Daily Bread is there to bridge the gap for so many families.”
Thanks to METALLICA‘s $40,000 donation, Daily Bread Food Bank can provide roughly 40,000 meals to those in need – a powerful illustration of how each dollar donated equates to a meal. These crucial funds allow Daily Bread to purchase vital fresh fruits, vegetables, proteins, and dairy for distribution across their network of 205 food programs serving the city.
