“Black Stone Cherry created a package that has a solid variety of music including covers, originals, and live performances.”
Record Store Day is all about celebrating special releases surrounding physical media when it comes to music. Black Stone Cherry took that celebration to the extreme with their album “This is Black Stone Cherry’s RSD album. The Band Really Likes It.” The band has assembled a collection of previously unreleased songs, great features, and hand-picked live performances of some of the band’s fan favorites from previous albums.
For the new tracks, we have “American Horse” featuring John Cooper and Ayron Jones. This track is a powerful way to start off the RSD (Record Store Day) album and will surely get fans pumped up. Then we lead into “Out of Pocket,” which features Jesse Leach, the frontman of the well-known Killswitch Engage. This song packs a punch from start to finish, with each vocalist taking turns and really taking musical chemistry to the next level. These songs will surely whet the appetites of fans clambering for new music. “Have You Ever Been Lonely” is the newest single from the album that really speaks from the heart.
Black Stone Cherry adds in some amazing covers, starting with “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” which is an absolute blast. They do an amazing job of paying tribute to the original while adding that flair that fans have come to expect. It’s hard-rocking, distortion-heavy, but at the same time will have people dancing while remembering how special the original was. We then move on to “Give Me One Reason (The Plug),” which keeps the bluesy elements of the original track but keeps it simple with an amazing acoustic performance.
The live performances do what they should, and that’s capturing the magic in audio form of a Black Stone Cherry live performance. Live songs of previously released tracks include “When the Pain Comes,” “Peace Is Free,” which has an amazing feature from Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale, and “Lonely Train” (the band’s original breakout single), among a couple of others. These songs really show the power of what the band can do in a live setting, and the sound was translated well into audio form.
This RSD album is an absolute blast! While paying homage to Record Store Day, Black Stone Cherry created a package that has a solid variety of music, including covers, originals, and live performances. It’s nice to see such a great project that celebrates people enjoying physical media. This album is also a nice nod to the band’s illustrious career. I see why the band really likes their RSD album—because it’s hard not to love it.
