This week’s new heavy metal releases include riffs, evil stuff, epic punk, and more! To the metals…
ALSO! Today, Bandcamp is doing one of their days of giving 100% of what you pay directly to the labels and artists. So if you can get stuff from Bandcamp, please do.
Aawks – On Through The Sky Maze
Genre: Stoner metal
Origin: Barrie, Ontario
Label: Black Throne Productions
Buy now on Bandcamp
Riffs. For. DAYS! On Through The Sky Maze is all head bang inducing fuzzy stoner metal. Sounds like Fu Manchu if they were a little pissed off.
Bleed – Bleed
Genre: Alternative/hard rock
Origin: Dallas, Texas
Label: 20 Buck Spin
Buy now on Bandcamp
Early-00’s metal is back in a big way and when bands like Bleed take a swing at it, they do it well. Their debut sounds like Chevelle mixed with Deftones and some of your more modern shoegaze acts. This even sounds like it was recorded in the era.
Crematory – Destination
Genre: Gothic metal
Origin: Westhofen, Germany
Label: ROAR
Buy now on from Crematory
While very much still a gothic metal record, Crematory feel like their dipping more of their toes into their melodic death metal era here than on their last record. There are some twists thrown in since they gotta mix things up at least a little bit on their seventeenth album. For one there’s a cover of Type O Negative‘s “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend” and then Michelle Darkness from End of Green makes a cameo on a song.
Hate – Bellum Regiis
Genre: Blackened death metal
Origin: Warsaw, Poland
Label: Metal Blade
Buy now on Bandcamp
On lucky album number thirteen Hate are once again not fucking around. This is heavy, evil metal that only takes breaks to bathe you in sonic darkness. Fans of Vader and, of course, their fellow countrymen Behemoth will dig this.
Nightfall – Children Of Eve
Genre: Blackened death/gothic metal
Origin: Athens, Greece
Label: Season Of Mist
Buy now on Bandcamp
So here’s something slightly interesting (or more likely not at all). This album is called Children of Eve. The single below is called “I Hate.” The last band I mentioned was called Hate, and their vocalist calls himself Adam The First Sinner. Adam and Eve… WHOA! Anyway, this record is like the middle ground between Hate and Crematory. This is grand and heavy. Honestly, the trio would be a pretty solid tour.
Propagandhi – At Peace
Genre: Melodic hardcore
Origin: Portage la Prairie, Manitoba
Label: Epitaph
Buy now on Bandcamp
Concluding this week with a fun one in honor of our fearless leader Greg who loves himself some Propagandhi. The band’s eighth album comes eight years (weird) after their last record and takes the listener on a high-energy punk-infused ride. It’s catchy, surprisingly technical, and has a song that’s sort of about cats.
