Legendary rock band THE WHO have cast doubt on whether their newly announced “The Song Is Over” farewell tour will include any dates in the UK.
Speaking at a livestreamed press conference on Thursday (8th May), founding members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend revealed plans for an extensive North American tour set to take place across the U.S. and Canada in August and September 2025. However, when asked about the possibility of bringing the tour home to the UK, their response was far from optimistic.
“Let’s see if we survive this one,” Daltrey joked when Absolute Radio’s Claire Sturgess inquired about UK and European dates.
He went on to offer a more serious explanation, pointing to the growing logistical challenges of touring in the UK. “I’ve just finished a solo tour of the UK,” Daltrey said. “I’ve got to say that touring America is a damn sight easier than touring the UK. For some reason, the UK has made it as difficult as possible to go from A to B. In America, you seem to want to make it as easy as possible – but we are in the land of ‘no’.”
Townshend, appearing in person at the London event, did not confirm or deny future UK dates but focused instead on celebrating what is expected to be their final North American run.
The announcement has left many UK fans uncertain about whether they’ll get a chance to see THE WHO live one last time. With The Song Is Over tour being billed as a farewell, the absence of UK shows would be a bittersweet finale for a band whose legacy is so deeply rooted in British music history.
While nothing has been officially ruled out, for now, it seems THE WHO’s goodbye might be heard loudest across the Atlantic.
