Founding Suicide Silence guitarist Chris Garza has announced that he’s taking a temporary break from the band’s live shows. In a statement, Garza reassured fans that he’s still very much a part of Suicide Silence, a band he co-founded back in 2002. This hiatus only applies to live performances, and Garza will continue to be involved with the band.
“What’s up everyone,” wrote Garza. “As some of you have noticed, I’ve missed the last couple Suicide Silence shows. I’m on a hiatus from the band. Since 2002, SuSi has been on my mind every day without a break. Everything is fine; I just need to press the reset button so I can make the right decisions in the near future. As the Terminator said, I’ll be back.”
Regarding Suicide Silence‘s plans to follow up their 2023 record Remember… You Must Die, Garza mentioned in an interview with Nik Nocturnal back in January that they’re already working on new material.
“I am in Southern California, so it’s like I’m lucky,” said Garza at the time. “I’m just going to all these shows, seeing deathcore bands, new metalcore bands. I didn’t know who Alpha Wolf was until they played a small venue down the street, and I was like, ‘okay, I’ll check it out.'”
“When you’re consistently putting new things into your mind – whether it’s music, books, or learning – something happens to your brain that forces you to be open-minded, and that sparks a new form of creativity.
“So, we started writing our new record two weeks ago, and I don’t know, man. I’m playing differently. It’s weird; I don’t know. I’m just like, ‘oh, I wouldn’t normally do that.’ So, it’s like, the self-titled backlash, being broke for a long time, plus being inspired, plus the new bands really pushing me without them knowing. I don’t know; I just can’t put my finger on it. Something is happening.”
