CLOWN Shares Insight on SLIPKNOT’s Look Outside Your Window: “It’s Bound to Emerge. You Have My Promise”

Date:

Slipknot produced two records in 2008 – All Hope Is Gone and the much-discussed but unreleased Look Outside Your Window. Look Outside Your Window showcases vocalist Corey Taylor, guitarist Jim Root, percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan, and DJ Sid Wilson, and has been labeled as a significant departure from the band’s typically intense sound.

Look Outside Your Window was initially planned for release on Christmas Day 2019, and later rescheduled for some time after April 2023. Percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan reassured fans last year that Look Outside Your Window is set to come out in 2024, even though it has not yet materialized.

So what’s the situation? In a recent conversation with Andy Hall, Clown mentioned that Look Outside Your Window has cover art and has already been mixed and mastered, and that it will be released eventually. Clown emphasized the need for Look Outside Your Window to have its own spotlight and not to be overshadowed by anything or anyone else. This aspect makes a 2024 release date a bit uncertain, especially considering Slipknot‘s continued commemoration of their self-titled debut album from 1999.

“The only reason it hasn’t been released is because it’s a timeless album,” stated Clown. “It could have been released 10 years ago, 10 years from now, today, and so forth. The main issue, and I know this may sound like a excuse, but it’s the truth, every time we were close to releasing it, something in life threw a curveball at the band. For example, the artwork was completed, the mixing was done, the mastering was finished — all set. However, we like to build anticipation so that everyone has the chance to enjoy it. Yet, whenever we reached that point, something like COVID would occur, or a band member would pursue other projects.

“So, what we must do is divert our focus towards those matters. We’re not trying to have Look Outside Your Window face disruptions, but external circumstances are causing delays because we’re not prioritizing it. But I’ve decided to stand firm because I’m tired of hearing everyone — not the fans or yourself, but some band members who are involved. It’s been a long time and they just chuckle about it. I laugh too, but I truly believe we’ll release it this year. It’s not something we’ll necessarily tour. That doesn’t mean we won’t perform at some events; I’m uncertain. But it’s essentially a personal gift for us.

“So, I’m quite fond of it. It’s going to see the light of day. You have my assurance. There’s no drama. It’s just about finding the right moment. It needs its own space and time without any distractions. So, it will be unveiled in due course in this reality. That’s all I can say.”
