Connecticut Attorney General Probing Capulet Festival Catastrophe

The 2024 Capulet Festival turned into a complete fiasco.

The chaos began when the festival relocated from Thompson Speedway in Thompson, CT – with a capacity for 13,000 attendees – to The Webster in Hartford, CT, which accommodates only 1,200 people and is situated more than 50 miles away from the original venue, just before the event’s commencement. At this juncture, 20 bands had already backed out of the festival lineup, including Nothing More, Senses Fail, and 10 Years, among others.

The situation deteriorated even further. The Capulet Festival was abruptly terminated during LiveKill‘s performance on the second day out of the three planned, following a security intervention that forced everyone to evacuate due to allegations of non-payment of rent by the festival organizers.

Among the numerous dissatisfied attendees is Connecticut Attorney General William Tong, who has formally launched a probe into Capulet Entertainment LLC and promoter Esteban Vega.

“Nothing enrages me more than observing individuals in our state being deceived,” remarked Tong. “I fear that is precisely what transpired at the Capulet Music Festival.”

He added: “Our knowledge indicates that attendees were assured and guaranteed a three-day music festival at Thompson Motor Speedway, an outdoor event with food trucks, multiple bands, including headline acts.”

Tong also advised Capulet Festival-goers to attempt reclaiming their funds through any available avenues, stating: “Individuals should pursue all possible remedies. If they can contact their credit card company or bank and believe they can receive assistance, they should make the effort.”

The Capulet Festival organizers initially issued a statement on social media, as secured by The PRP, given that the festival’s Facebook page has been deactivated.

“Sunday is no longer viable. We battled. We confronted hurdle after hurdle. We became a target, subjected to animosity, even though we were striving to salvage the event and present the best show possible. Our sacrifices went unnoticed. All we received was criticism. We exhausted all possibilities. We hope you had an enjoyable time. We gave our all. Thank you to all attendees who came out and had a great time. We hope you relished the meet and greets. We hope you relished the music. Farewell.”

Additionally, the festival’s website simply states: “Despite our utmost endeavors and due to unforeseen circumstances, Capulet Fest concluded on Saturday night with a remarkable performance by Skillet.”

Vega has since withdrawn from social media in response to the backlash.
