With what looks to be one of the most powerful hurricanes ever recorded bearing down on Florida in the very near future, death metal legends Deicide have opted to cancel their three remaining shows with Krisiun, Inferi, and Cloak so they can help their families prepare for the storm. Hurricanes are nothing new for the Floridians, but with this being the second major storm to hit the area in recent weeks, things could get particularly dire for the region.
In a post on their Facebook page, the band announced their intentions to axe the rest of their shows, letting fans know that though they were sorry for the inconvenience, their family and property are their priorities.
“Due to the pending landfall of hurricane Milton on central Florida and the gulf coast , we will be leaving the tour after the performance today in Corpus Christi Texas and heading back to the state of Florida to protect our families and properties, we are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate your understanding, Houston, New Orleans and Pensacola will be canceled to allow us time to return to our families and homes. We will be playing early tonight 8 to 9 so hurry out tonight!”
Given the fact that Hurricane Milton’s expected to make landfall tomorrow evening around the Sarasota, Florida region, the band have a pretty tight window to get home and begin preparations. According to the National Hurricane Center, Florida could experience storm surges where the water could rise as much as 15 feet in some places. Scientists estimate that the hurricane could bring with it winds of upwards of 155 miles per hour, though that figure could decrease as the storm hits land.
Given the hurricane’s projected path, it could be the first storm since 1921 to hit the greater Tampa region where Deicide are from and the surrounding area.
We’re wishing everyone in the affected areas a safe next few days as they navigate this storm.
