Down originally slated their show at Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino in Mescalero, NM for June 20, 2024. Unfortunately the show was postponed due to wildfires rapidly spreading in the area, and would eventually take place on September 27, 2024.
Down has now teamed up with Metal Dave Media for a mini-documentary on the show and how the band raised money for the Mescalero Apaches during the fires with two Lousiana shows shortly after the New Mexico one was postponed. You can watch that in full above.
“To play a show for the music/metal fans from Mescalero was an absolute honor,” said Down vocalist Phil Anselmo. “The beautiful presentation from the local Apache Tribe was humbling, surreal, and strong. I’d play there again in a heartbeat.”
Down drummer Jimmy Bower added: “When we were invited to play the Inn Of The Mountain Gods, we knew from the start it would be special. Almost canceled due to wildfires, we played two shows in Louisiana to help raise funds for the locals in Mescalero. The show was rescheduled and we flew out the next month. Before the show, we were presented with embroidered native wool blankets in appreciation for our donation which was an absolute honor. The show was amazing. It was truly a special weekend.”
Down will also hit the road this March for a West Coast tour with Danzig, Abbath, and Cro-Mags. The tour kicks off on March 21 at The Virgin Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas in Las Vegas, NV, and wraps up about a week later on March 30 at the Arizona Financial Theatre in Phoenix, AZ.
