Download Festival to Feature “Multiple Secret Sets”

With just three months left between now and this year’s Download Festival, we pretty much know everything about who’s playing each stage and when. We know the side activities that attendees will be able to participate in. We know it’s going to be a hell of a good time for people that go this year. But apparently, we don’t really know everything about this year’s Download. And that’s by design, according to the festival’s organizers.

In their recent newsletter to fans, Download Festival organizers revealed that there’d be “multiple secret sets” taking place throughout the festival. That could mean things like performances from bands that might not be on the bill or maybe some special sets from previously announced bands celebrating a special occasion… Who knows?

The announcement has already gotten fans freaking out and making predictions online about what that announcement could mean. Of course, people in attendance at last year’s Download remember there was a surprise Parkway Drive set that people weren’t expecting. And while it was just a half-hour long, it was something that people who caught the set live are likely not to forget.

Over the years, various festivals have sometimes let special sets take place, giving fans a chance to experience a surprise that they had zero idea was coming. Metallica’s been known to perform some secret sets at festivals, having not only performed as “Notallica” during the 2003 edition of Download Festival, but also during their own Orion Festival when they played all of Kill ‘Em All as Dehaan.

Ultimately, we’re gonna have to wait to find out what they mean by “secret sets”, but it’s certainly gotten people excited for an already exciting festival.
