In a new interview with The Metal Voice, DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy shared a health update on band’s singer James LaBrie.
As previously reported, DREAM THEATER were forced to cancel their Atlanta show on February 11th due to singer LaBrie‘s illness.
LaBrie said in a statement: “To everyone attending tonight’s show in Atlanta, I sincerely apologize for having to cancel the show tonight due to being sick. I hope to get through this as quickly as possible and resume putting on amazing shows throughout the remaining [North American] dates. Thank you and see you soon.”
Portnoy now told The Metal Voice: “He’s okay, we’re in Biloxi (Mississippi) today and it looks like the show will go on. So he is doing much better. He really was in bad shape yesterday and couldn’t even speak so unfortunately we had a situation where we had to pull the plug on the show which you know I don’t know if that’s ever even happened with us. Sometimes these things happen. You know a singer’s instrument is their voice and sometimes if you’re really sick, I mean he literally couldn’t even speak, so it was it was rough but the show will go on today in Biloxi.”
DREAM THEATER launched the North American leg of their 40th-anniversary tour on February 7 at The Met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Titled “An Evening With Dream Theater,” the tour marks their first North American run since drummer Mike Portnoy rejoined the lineup alongside James LaBrie, bassist John Myung, guitarist John Petrucci, and keyboardist Jordan Rudess. The tour is set to wrap up on March 22 in New York City.
DREAM THEATER released their latest studio album, Parasomnia, on February 7, 2025. This album marks the band’s first release with drummer Mike Portnoy since 2009’s Black Clouds & Silver Linings. You can read our review for Parasomnia here.
