It’s been a minute since we’ve heard anything from the supergroup Eye Am. Last time was the release of their single “Cryptomnesia” last November, so yeah — it’s been a while. Earlier today, however, that long bout of silence ended as the group featuring former Type O Negative members Kenny Hickey and Johnny Kelly, along with Crowbar frontman Kirk Windstein and bassist Todd Strange announced they were the artists formerly known as Eye Am. Instead, they were now Sun Dont Shine.
I don’t know how to express how hard it is to not throw that apostrophe in their name, but apparently that’s how they want it. It’s all over the press release announcing the change and their Facebook profile reflects the spelling as well, so yeah. That won’t be annoying. Wait, excuse me… that wont be annoying.
Speaking of the band’s outlook on their music and sound, Hickey said everything about the band will stay functionally the same, despite the name change. So if you worried they were now some emo punk cry baby band, that’s not the case at all.
“I don’t want our music to be one-dimensional. I don’t want it to be just dark and doomy or always so heavy. I want it to be both light and dark, dynamic and unpredictable.”
We are still waiting on some more music or maybe an album announcement or something — anything — at this point. The first two singles kicked some serious ass, so to say there’s some excitement brewing behind this band would be an understatement.
Just fucking put something else out, already!
