I was in the mood for some good old Thrash Metal. I had very good times listening to Thrash Metal when I was younger in the 1980’s the time the subgenre had its highest moment. Bands as Testament, Nuclear Assault, Anthrax, Overkill, Megadeth, and the band I do not say the name gave me a lot of joy. I felt all of them with Game Over “Face the End” not only because I felt all those references with the album, but also because Game Over provide a new approach to the classics. By the way, Game Over is a great name for a Thrash Metal band, isn’t it?
I do not like the term, but “Face the End” can be seen as a reinterpretation of the classics with the new approach I mentioned before. The fan feels it right away with album warmer “Lust for Blood,” an uptempo track that reminds Testament good old times – Oh, boy! The countless hours I spent listening to Testament “Practice What You Preach.” It is fair to say that’s the vibe of “Face the End,” including the prowness Testament are known for. Yeah, Game Over have great musicians as well and that makes a hell of a difference. From where I am standing this is the features that gives the album its own personality. Great musicians do great music. It is not a rule, but it sure is a valid comment.
Undoubtedly, “Face the End” is an album that the fan will soon notice the amount of time and effort given to its process of production with the instrumentals of tracks as “Lost in Disgrace” and “Vell of Insanity,” for instance. The crystal clear sound outstands with the careful songwriting. The guitar work of “Gateway to Infinity” is also a highlight to the extreme care Game Over and their team had with the album. Guitar duo Luca ʻZeeroʼ Zironi and Alessandro ʻSansoʼ Sansone sound perfectly cohesive here. The rehearse hours were very well spent, if you allow me to say.
Ok, needless to say Game Over and “Face the End” have an obvious influence, but to stress only this feature here is unfair. “Face the End” offers a new approach to the classics as I said before. The album is truely refreshing because it takes the band’s influences and them their own. The almost ballad, or slow tempo track, “Crimson Fate” proves this with its careful progression trying to take the song to its emotional peak in the absolute right time. Make no mistake, this is a damn great neckbreaking album.
Game Over “Face the End” will be released on April 25th via Scarlet Records.
