“Bluetgraf” welcomes the fan with its tittle track “Bluetgraf” which at first, my dear child of the night will get stranged by the vocals that go as an anthem. Its initial impact is sublime, and, at the same time, touching. Getting the same road to total madness is “För Emmer” keeping he same anthem mood plus some more speed and velocity. Well, I have to say I am amazed by both due to the emotional content and for the surprise the both songs had on me. I guess this kind of emotion fits perfectly for Black Metal even though I do not understand a word they are saying in their Luzern dialect. I only know “[t]hematically it is all about different stories about vampires, including the most famous ones like Vlad Tepes, and local myths.” Checking out with our dear Google Translator bluetgraf means bloody grave. Hmm, it kind of fits.
Ok, after the two outstanding tracks aformentioned Ghörnt took a more paved way to Black Metal. Even though the band keeps a little of the more emotional vocals, the tracks as “Jagd” would sound a little more understandable for naked ears. I really liked the frentic guitars and drums from “Vlad,” which theme might sound obvious even though its onancy does not. The guitar work is very interesting with some repeating phrases filled by a pulsatin drumming that kind of follows the guitars in terms of tempo and cadence. It sure is an ungodly track with some guitar melodies in the right time and space.
After hearing “Bluetgraf” for the thousandth time, I noticed that it can divided into two very distinct parts. The first goes from album opener and tittle track “Bluetgraf” to “Vlad” They are the ones with the most emotional content and, from where I am standing, more appealing to black metallers. From “Dominator” on Ghörnt added some guitar grooves, or breaks, or squeaks, that take them to a modern Metal kind of stuff even though I admit they sound pretty peculiar and might fit in the band’s intent. In a nutshell, it is a fact, the album takes this way very distinctly. Well, to be fair with “Wit Wääg vo de Sonne” the aforementioned guitar effects function fine. Well, maybe because here the band adds their vocal signature as well.
“Bluetgraf” is a great album. It may sound a little surprising to some, but it is great to be surprised once in a while. Ghörnt really know how to add surprising elements to their music in order to stand it out of the crowd.
Ghörnt “Bluetgraf” will be released on April 11th via Soulseller Records.
