“Heck Yeah!”: KIRK HAMMETT Wants METALLICA To Play The Las Vegas Sphere

The Las Vegas Sphere has already become one of the most talked-about venues in live music in a matter of months, and it may soon host another all-time great act to its stage.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter recently, Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett left little to the imagination when he stated that he and his bandmates are more than willing to perform at the state-of-the-art venue:

“Oh, heck, yeah! That’s a great illustration of how venues are changing. That’s putting new technology to maximum use, to actually raise the levels of entertainment and production, connected with A.I. and making it a crazy experience.”

That a level of enthusiasm is unsurprising, considering the Sphere’s reputation. Since its launch in September 2023, the 17,600-seater near the Venetian Resort and Wynn Las Vegas has changed the live show game. Combining a 16K wraparound LED screen, fully immersive 4D elements, and a cutting-edge sound system, it has taken concert production to the next level.

The venue’s debut season has seen its fair share of rock royalty. U2 opened the venue with a visually and sonically staggering 40-show run from September 2023 to March 2024. Performing the full album of Achtung Baby, plus selected hits from their general catalog, the band sold out shows attended by more than 700,000 people.

Phish, Dead & Company, and The Eagles are among other musicians who have previously used enormous excursions through the Sphere’s capacity, taking audiences to a threshold yet uncharted theater of its mesmerizing spectacle and its futuristic production techniques brought to life in ways never before imagined.

If Metallica finds its way onto that list, one can only imagine the full-scale spectacle they will bring.

In the meantime, Metallica is on the road playing their M72 2025 tour featuring Pantera and Suicidal Tendencies as openers, as well as Limp Bizkit and Ice Nine Kills. Tickets are available here.
