‘I Think It Could Happen’

In a recent interview with Mojo magazine, QUEEN guitarist Brian May acknowledged the possibility of him and his bandmates releasing new music.

“I think it could happen,” May said. “Both Roger [TaylorQUEEN drummer] and I are constantly writing and coming up with ideas and doing things in our studios. I could have the beginnings of a QUEEN song right there in front of me now. It’s just whether the idea reaches maturity or not. It’s whether that seed can grow.”

Last October, Taylor expressed similar optimism about QUEEN releasing new music, telling Uncut magazine: “I think we might.

Brian and myself were talking the other day, and we both said that if we feel we have some good material, why not?” he continued. “We can still play. We can still sing. So I don’t see why not.”

In June 2024, Sony Music Entertainment finalized a landmark agreement to acquire QUEEN‘s extensive music catalog for approximately £1 billion (USD $1.27 billion). This historic transaction encompasses the band’s global music publishing rights, recording interests outside North America, and their ‘name and likeness’ rights. Notably, Disney Music Group retains ownership of QUEEN‘s recorded music rights in North America, with Universal Music Group continuing as the distributor in that region until 2026 or 2027, after which Sony will assume full global distribution.
