Staley passed away on April 5, 2002, following a long and heartbreaking struggle with heroin addiction, which eventually derailed both his career and his band after three studio albums, an acoustic live release, and two EPs. In the final years of his life, the 34-year-old singer largely withdrew from the public eye. His body remained undiscovered in his Seattle home until April 20, 2002, nearly two weeks after the determined date of his passing.
