MASTODON Performs First Show Without BRENT HINDS, YouTuber BEN ELLER Fills In (Video)


MASTODON enlisted YouTuber and session musician Ben Eller to fill in for founding guitarist Brent Hinds during their concert on Sunday, March 9, at the “Tool Live In The Sand” festival. The event took place at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Royalton Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Check out the video from the performance below.

On Friday, March 7th, MASTODON announced Hinds‘ departure from the band via a statement: “Friends and Fans, After 25 monumental years together, MASTODON and Brent Hinds have mutually decided to part ways.

“We’re deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we’ve shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors.

“We are still very inspired and excited to show up for fans in this next chapter of MASTODON. As we move forward, all 2025 touring plans will remain intact. We look forward to seeing you on the road.”

Alongside Troy SandersBill Kelliher, and Brann DailorHinds helped form MASTODON in 2000. He played on all eight of their albums, spanning from Remission (2002) to Hushed and Grim (2021). Beyond MASTODONHinds‘ musical endeavors include performances with FIEND WITHOUT A FACEWEST END MOTELGIRAFFE TONGUE ORCHESTRA, and LEGEND OF THE SEAGULLMEN.
