For many metal fans, Extreme Metal is heavy metal. Death, Morbid Angel, Carcass, Entombed, Darkthrone, Dimmu Borgir, Opeth, guttural vocals, blast beats, lyrics about death and the occult …. we couldn’t tell the story of metal without it. And so Banger Films presents Extreme Metal, the latest chapter in Metal Evolution, the biggest-ever TV series on the history of heavy metal and hard rock. Hosted by Sam Dunn and based on Banger’s groundbreaking “Heavy Metal Family Tree”, Extreme Metal features new interviews with Death Metal, Grindcore and Black Metal’s most influential sonic architects and a global journey from Tampa to the UK, Norway and France’s Hellfest to investigate the history, myths and intricacies of this most innovative and transgressive subgenre. How extreme is it? Too extreme for some TV networks! Which is why Banger Films turned to crowdfunding—it was support from the metal community around the world through an IndieGogo campaign which made Metal Evolution: Extreme Metal a reality.

I love heavy metal, like Pantera and Sepultura for example. But I can't stand death metal like Cannibal Corpse or any of that garage. Can't even tell a verse from a chorus. It's nothing but a gimmick….

People interviewed are so intelligent and well spoken, especially compared to musicians who are considered "normal". Except for Necro loser, he is a fool and a jerk as always.

Anyone else prefer Hellhammer over Celtic Frost? They're both great, but I love the gritty, rough feel of Hellhammer. Also, I bet Bob Dole wished he had lept his mouth shut. All he did was give Cannibal Corpse free publicity.

Poor Necrobutcher. Still a miserable drunk. He should move in with Varg and they can hate the world and be miserable together.

I remember seeing Tom Warrior's ads looking for like-minded musos in early Kerrang! magazines.

“A los of people say that by the early 2000s black metal had fractured”. Who? Sure, some bands went mainstream, but the real underground BM bands kept releasing good albums. If you knew where to look, you’d find it.

Anyway, I find this documentary to be the opinion of one person. Obviously, we all have different opinions about a lot of these subjects.
