Thank you so much for this video. I ran from downtown to Wrigley so fast to get there in time and I basically cried once I got my wristband. This show was a dream come true.

if they really gave a shit they would of announced it, for all the metal heads that still supported them and their older fan base. that was the reason they came back to this venue no?

Why do they sound so much better here than anywhere in the past 15 years? Whatever it was, they were in the zone!

They must be nostalgic to be back at the Metro since they performed there at 1983. Amazing!

Wow, what a difference 38 years, almost exactly, make. I think their a wee bit more famous than they were back in September 1983! A shame they didn"t play the exact set as 1983 (basically all of Kill "Em All), then add the newer songs. And have started with Hit The Lights (one of my favourite Metalica songs) Anyone old enough to have been to BOTH gigs? If so, how were your experiences?

    Why no multicam editing?

So, this was a sanction (funded also) video? Harvester of Sorrow, clearly has Audio Post Production, vocal shaping and audio syncing to video *WHICH IS IN NO WAY A KNOCK – HUMANS CANT SOUND TIGHT LIKE STUDIO MASTERS POST FINAL EDIT/MIX! So, Metallica (obviously funded to pro edit of and GLAD THEY DID!). Additionally, song's video editing, quick cuts from multi broadcast quality Cameras (and looks they are shoulder or mounted on rig above and maybe sound booth)
I've a feeling this may be an OFFICIAL release, once Harvester of Sorrow Level QUALITY is achieved, through crazy hours of post production!
AMAZING INTIMATE VENUE. LIKELY ANOTHER REASON MAKING SMALL SHOWS CHOICES FOR OFFICIAL RELEASES!!!
You'll typically have 'fill' angles of each member – quick cut edit, say, to behind Kirk's finger work on fretboard when sloppy 'happy accident' will be either filled with a tight sequence from another show.
If it's a REAL BIG OFFICIAL Record Label Release (don't know bout Metallica, but CERTAINLY many other bands) will even do studio over dubs, engineer will punch studio takes in/out, mix to match rest of show.
Typically, when you see a cut to Wide Angle, Crowd, or tight shot of band member, not showing video footage giveaways of anomaly in performance they will later punch in/out a studio overdub.
Another technique we use with DMB is to record board mix, along with matrix using audience microphones, play with delays in raising audience matrix, raising crowd noise.
Another 'not so secret' is we use fanclub senior tenure memberships to seat the die hards in a section that is mic'd up for throwing in known sing-along parts!!! Most bands, I recon do this – along with handpicking hottest girls/guys. On 2 or 3 night stands, I'll oft walk around looking for fans who accurately sing along, while demonstrating a visually pleasing affinity to move/dance along… We'll invite them back for another show in the multi night stand, seat or stand them where camera operators can easily zoom/pan to them.
It's funny how much footage of crowd can be used, for bridge, chorus parts, ect that repeat. Live production is a well choreographed performance in and of itself!!! IMAGINATION IS KEY!!!
So, too, are you super fans. We utilize them a lot. I've done tour video productions for other bands as well – trust me, when you travel with the band's tour, we know who and where you are LoL. The fans are a much bigger (and preplanned) part of a large productions polished final product than you'd really ever realize 😉
Great show, Metallica. Great audience and AMAZING INTIMATE venue with atmosphere like around a Mountain top!!!

It would have been so cool,at Seek and Destroy before they play the song,James said,"Alright,we've got some maniacs out there tonight, that's what I like to see some real thrashing out there"

Wish I could’ve been there but happy for the people who were able to attend! Must’ve been a once in a lifetime experience!
I lived too far from The Metro to make it in time to just lineup for tickets.

I got a text from a friend at 8 am, "Metallica is playing Metro tonight. Tix onsale at the door at noon. Yes, I'm serious." I was hesitant at first– that can't be true. I got to work at 9 then somewhere at 10am I went, "Eh, fuck it… I'm gonna see if this true." Went home, grabbed cash (Cost for the show was cash only– $19.83– a nod to their last appearance there. With tax, a flat $20.) and headed down Clark street. The whole I'm driving down I'm going, "We'll see… I mean– is this true?" As soon as I got to Irving Park and Clark I saw a HUGE red semi parked in front of Metro and went, "Holy…shit." The line was only wrapped around the back of the GMan next door. Word had gotten out a bit. I saw one of my buddies who was security at Metro. He told me based on where I was in line, I was a shoo-in to get tix. Some people heard about it through industry people, another through a fan club. My favorite was the guy next to me in line who lived across the street from Metro. He was getting ready for work and looked out the window as they start unloading the semi. One case, two cases, three cases…. wait… why do ALL OF THESE cases say "Metallica" on it? He called off work that day. I saw them as a kid on the black album tour. I saw them recently at a football stadium for the Hardwired tour. Then, I saw this. People asked me if I was gonna go to Lollapalooza last year since Metallica was playing. My answer was, "Why? What could they do to ever top that show?" Seriously, a bonkers evening. I saw Master of Puppets played 25 feet in front of me. Top that, stadium show.

Man, I was hoping for Metal Militia with the “Metal Up Your Ass” back and forth part at the end like the 83 show, lol! But quite a unique set for sure
