Melanie Hamrick, Mick Jagger‘s longtime partner, recently revealed to Paris Match that she accepted his marriage proposal “two or three years ago.”
Despite a significant age difference, with Jagger being 81 and Hamrick 37, the couple has been together since 2014 and share a son, Deveraux, born in 2016. Hamrick, a choreographer and former ballerina, initially met the ROLLING STONES frontman while he was on tour.
Prior to his current relationship, Jagger has fathered children with four other women: Bianca Jagger (to whom he was married from 1971 to 1978 and with whom he has one child), Marsha Hunt, Jerry Hall, and Luciana Gimenez Morad.
According to Hamrick, they haven’t yet established any specific plans for their wedding.
“Maybe one day, maybe not,” she said. “We’re so happy in our current life that I’d be too afraid to change anything.”
During the interview, Hamrick confessed that she has long been drawn to older men.
“I think it’s a question of maturity,” she said. “At 17, I was working, paying my own bills, and traveling the world, while most boys my age barely knew what they wanted to do with their lives. I had nothing in common with them. I was absolutely focused on dance; I saw nothing else.”
She also made it clear that she doesn’t care about others’ opinions regarding the age gap with Jagger.
“Why worry about other people’s opinions, stop at what they think of us,” Hamrick said. “Am I happy? Yes. Are the people in my life happy? Yes. Am I hurting anyone? No. … As long as everyone is happy and healthy, everything is fine.”
