Mortifera – Ciel Brouillé (Depressive Black Metal)

Mortifera – Ciel Brouillé (Depressive Black Metal)

French Depressive Black Metal band, founded by Noktu Geiistmort and Neige, which are related, besides Mortifera, to an extensive plethora of bands and projects that go from the underground to the more ‘mainstream’ side black metal (and derivates) scene on France. Mortifera has changed it’s sound through the years, from a raw style to a dsbm with post-black metal influences.

What do you think about the recent years ‘post-‘ incursion to black metal? Do you consider DSBM was affected from it for good or for bad? Has it become a trend? Does it belong, or would it be better to separate the post- from black metal, just as the -core genres (for example) are separated from metal? Comment your opinions below!

Song is taken from Vastiia Tenebrd Mortifera
(Released in October 2004, with GoatowaRex limited to 500 digipack copies, co-released by Death Triumphant Records limited to 100 copies on tape version.)

    @CelestialLarrivee I, too, think this is beautiful. Especially from 3:58 – 4:50. That guitar part is <3.

    I dig the production and the fact that shoegaze and black metal are crossing over each other.

    On dirait ton regard d'une vapeur couvert ;
    Ton œil mystérieux, – est-il bleu, gris ou vert ? –
    Alternativement tendre, doux et cruel,
    Réfléchit l'indolence et la pâleur du ciel.

    Tu rappelles ces jours blancs, tièdes et voilés,
    Qui font se fondre en pleurs les cœurs ensorcelés,
    Quand, agités d'un mal inconnu qui les tord,
    Les nerfs trop éveillés raillent l'esprit qui dort.

    Tu ressembles parfois à ces beaux horizons
    Qu'allument les soleils des brumeuses saisons ;
    – Comme tu resplendis, paysage mouillé
    Qu'enflamment les rayons tombant d'un ciel brouillé !

    O femme dangereuse ! ô séduisants climats !
    Adorerai-je aussi ta neige et vos frimas,
    Et saurai-je tirer de l'implacable hiver
    Des plaisirs plus aigus que la glace et le fer ?

    (Charles Baudelaire, taken from 'les fleurs du mal')
