Mysteries of a Flowery Dream Review

Mysteries of a Flowery Dream Review

Got any interest in a very dark album, full of an omnious, but very strong music. This is Jade with “Mysteries of a Flowery Dream,” band and album with controvertial; if not, to say ironic tittles. Jade is a delicate green precious stone used for ornaments or things; mysteries of a Flowery Dream in the hands of a hippy band would be a song to praise the flower power, if you know what I mean. Therefore, nothing to do do with an Extreme Metal band like Jade, whose album 2022’s “The Pacification of Death” was reviewed here. Now I realize I wrote the same thing about the band… Well, at least I am coherent on what I write. More or less.

Mysteries of a Flowery Dream” transports the fan to the dark realms of mind, if not to the most mysterious places of our minds and imagination some religions describe very well with lots of details as Dante described his inferno. It is a powerful album with strong music regardless the total absence of speed and the prone to construct songs with lots of mood. By the way, it is this mood that makes this album so powerful as it is. The label Progressive Death Metal would not be wrong to express the music Jade do here as it could be seen by tracks as “The Stars’ Shelter (II)” whose guitar lead moment reminds a lot Pink Floyd from “A Momentary Lapse of Reason” era. By the way, Pink Floyd is such a good reference that the intro of “9th Episode” reminded me again of the band, of course, without the hard as hell part with the heavy and fast drumming, but the intent is the same plus the despair and excruciating pain.

It is interesting how the band works works with a kind of musical the concept of euphemism. I’ll elaborate. Darkness in Movement showcases a slightly different tempo and cadence from the other tracks of the album. It is faster and heavier, then the moviment of the tittle. Darkness here would be the intent or identity of the album or the band; therefore, the tittle of the song. Tittle track “A Flowery Dream” goes the same direction being a little slower though than the previous with more mood in it given by the guitars with uncanny techniques for Extreme Metal that gives it a kind of atemporal meaning to it or, better yet, a more traditional musical approach.

It seems to me Jade worked on the darker side of flowers with “Mysteries of a Flowery Dream” – Yeah, I did not know there was one either, but the band proved me wrong. Well, maybe there is a dark side to everything even to the light. The album can be either a dream as the tittle says or a nightmare as the music in it says. Both are correct for our sakes or regret.

JadeMysteries of a Flowery Dream” will be released on May 09th via Pulverised Records.
