Honest and straight-ahead Old School Black Metal with very few, but outstanding, modern features. This is what my dear child of the night will find in “Tidloes Naadesloes” with album opener “Iskalde Horn,” a fast-paced track with lots of musical violence and no room for melody or anything of the kind. So are Nattverd, a band that leaves no room for melody or anything of the kind. My dear fan has to understand that there is no finesse in the album and that’s exactly its best thing.
Musicwise, Nattverd were deeply inspired by the 1990’s Scandinavian Black Metal scene which means the rawer the music the best. Of course, this does not mean that all the album is a total and complete buzz that no one can understand. On the contrary, the production and the songwriting made the album perfect in its own way. It is possible to say the band was very careful in the songwriting chosing elements that make it heavier, but at the same time make it audible. Following track “Doedsfugl” with its cadenced tempo and some small child’s bells tolling in the background prove my point. Interestingly, the guitars use the same guitar buzzing technique Venom’s Mantas used in their most famous album “Black Metal,” which, by the way, coined the term. “For Aa Kunne Bli Doedt” is one of the tracks that use some modern guitar technique in order to cool down a little the insane atmosphere the band creates. Pay attention to the total break in speed and mood in the middle of the song where the bass leads with some strumming. By the way, the bass here is also very interesting with some unearthly complex lines. Well, the main idea of “Tidloes Naadesloes” is to totally unearthly. Talking about the bass, take a look at “Hvisk Deg Vekk” to check it out with all the speed possible following the bass drumming.
I will not say “Tidloes Naadesloes” is an album only for diehard black metallers because it is not. If you are into the most perverted and vicious verves of Metal music you will appreciate its raw nature. As most of its peers the album has some bestial beauty.
Nattverd “Tidloes Naadesloes” was released on March 21st via Soulseller Records.
