Entombed is currently in the studio working on their first new record since Serpent Saints (The Ten Amendments) in 2007. Sadly this will also be Entombed‘s first effort since the death of legendary vocalist L-G Petrov, who died in 2021 after a battle with bile duct cancer. Which means that Entombed is going to have someone behind the microphone for this new record, and we’ve got some ideas on who they might choose.
Nicke Andersson
The most obvious choice. Andersson is already Entombed‘s drummer and you can hear his vocals on Entombed‘s 1991 album Clandestine. Putting Andersson behind. the mic feels like a no-brainer.
Orvar Säfström & Robert Andersson
Let’s get the two obvious picks out of the way right up top – Orvar Säfström (ex-Nirvana 2002) or Robert Andersson (Sweven, ex-Morbus Chron). Both Säfström and Andersson fronted Entombed for their 2016 performance of Clandestine at the Malmö Live Concert Hall, which was released as the Live Clandestine album. Both dudes clearly know the band and could crush some Entombed, so either would be an awesome pick. Säfström has the added bonus of having already fronted Entombed in the studio for their 1991 EP Crawl.
Robert Pehrsson
Pehrsson plays in a death metal band called Death Breath with Andersson. Death Breath has largely been inactive outside a sole 2022 single, so who knows if Pehrsson would be down.
Dan Swanö
Why not? Swanö is a proven death metal legend whose legacy includes phenomenal works with Edge Of Sanity, Bloodbath, and Witherscape. Swanö hasn’t done much musically in the past few years and seems to be focused more on the production side of things with Unisound, but still – Swanö would be killer.
Robert Sennebäck
Sennebäck is back in the game now that Dismember is both playing festivals and working on new material. I’m not sure if Sennebäck would be down for Entombed touring a whole bunch, but his distinctive roar would be right at home on some new Entombed music.
Mikael Åkerfeldt
Åkerfeldt is a long shot. Dude’s plenty busy with Opeth these days, but he’s back in he growling game given Opeth’s latest record The Last Will And Testament. Not to mention he helped found Bloodbath in the late ’90s, which was directly inspired by Entombed.
Karl Willetts
Willetts fronted Bolt Thrower and could absolutely do justice to Petrov’s vocals live. It’d be a bit of a shift for Entombed, but I’m pretty sure the Englishman could breathe some serious heaviness into the Swedes’ already devastating HM-2 madness.
