The legendary Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is once again the center of speculation, with new rumors circulating about potential surprise appearances by NIRVANA and FOO FIGHTERS. According to a report by Metal Stop, speculation is mounting among fans and industry insiders that the two legendary rock acts could share the stage at this year’s event.
Coachella, known for its star-studded lineup and jaw-dropping surprise sets, is already off to an unpredictable start. This year’s festival, scheduled across two weekends—April 11–13 and April 18–20—has undergone several sudden changes, shaking up what was thought to be a final lineup.
A major shake-up came when FKA TWIGS withdrew due to visa issues affecting her production team, canceling both Friday performances where she was set to debut material from her upcoming album Eusexua.
In a quick response, Coachella organizers added Ed Sheeran and WEEZER to the lineup. WEEZER will now perform on Saturday of weekend one, while Ed Sheeran is scheduled for Saturday of weekend two.
More turbulence followed as Brazilian pop star Anitta pulled out due to personal reasons, and New Jersey punk outfit GEL canceled after the group reportedly broke up. Despite the changes, Coachella’s big-name headliners—Lady Gaga, GREEN DAY, Travis Scott, and Post Malone—remain firmly in place, alongside standout acts like Charli XCX, Missy Elliott, and Megan Thee Stallion.
Rumors of a possible NIRVANA appearance began after surviving members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear reunited for a surprise performance of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” with Post Malone at SNL’s 50th anniversary, introduced as “Post Nirvana” by Adam Sandler. Weeks earlier, the trio had also taken the stage at LA’s FireAid concert alongside Joan Jett, St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, and Violet Grohl. With Post Malone already on the Coachella lineup, fans are wondering if another reunion is in store.
Meanwhile, although FOO FIGHTERS reportedly canceled their 2025 tour plans due to personal matters involving frontman Dave Grohl, the idea of a one-off appearance has not been ruled out. Surprise sets are a Coachella tradition, and FOO FIGHTERS remain one of the most beloved live acts on the planet.
So far, Coachella organizers have made no statements confirming or denying the possibility. Still, the timing, the recent reunions, and Post Malone’s connections to both bands have fans on high alert.
