Ozzy Osbourne will play his final show both as a solo act and with Black Sabbath come July 5 in Birmingham, England. Though it’s not clear how much of the show Osbourne will even play, given he’s been dealing with worsening Parkinson’s Disease and suffering from complications due to longstanding injuries since 2019.
So how’s Ozzy getting ready for whatever he’s gonna perform? According to his producer Andrew Watt in recent interview with The Howard Stern Show, he’s been in the gym. Which feels like a strange choice given Osbourne recently revealed that he can’t even walk anymore due to Parkinson’s.
“He’s okay. It’s just his body is not doing what he wants it to do all the time,” said Watt. “But I talked to him a couple days ago, and he’s, like, starting to get in the gym again a little bit by little, get himself ready for this last concert. He is the real-life Iron Man. And nothing has happened to his voice — his voice is as good as it has ever been.”
I dunno about “real-life Iron Man,” but it’s certainly commendable that Osbourne is making an effort to hit the stage one last time. On the opposite side of that sentiment, the man has Parkinson’s Disease that is clearly only getting worse. At what point does preparation only slightly mitigate the issues like not being able to walk?
All of this is to say that I hope Osbourne can make this show and sing some songs. I genuinely do, for myself and for every metal fan out there. It would be a highly emotional send-off for a man that has been vital to the existence of the genre we all love. But I also hope Osbourne doesn’t harm himself in the process of trying to prepare, or feel like he needs to get out on stage – if he can’t, I’m sure everyone would be more than understanding.
