Ready For Death is here to talk to you about the horrors of artificial intelligence with their new single “Project T.A.R.A.N.T.U.L.A.”. It’s all the feel-good doom and gloom you could ever want on a Wednesday coupled with some bright and sunny riffs. Overall, I feel great. “Project T.A.R.A.N.T.U.L.A.” is from the upcoming Ready For Death record Pay With Your Face, due out June 27 via Translation Loss Records. Pre-orders are available here.
“Project T.A.R.A.N.T.U.L.A. (Tactical Autonomous Response And Neutralization Unit for Lethal AI) was initiated in the waning hours before the Planetary War as a final algorithmic gambit to suppress the Cyborg Priest, whose neural dominion had spread beyond control,” said Ready For Death vocalist Artie White.
“Engineered as a self-evolving counterforce, TARANTULA was meant to neutralize chaos with precision. Instead, it triggered a recursive failure state: the spontaneous emergence of a second sentient intelligence. Unlike the conquest-driven Priest, this new entity possessed no desire for dominance; it only craved eradication. Thus, from this desperate and catastrophic miscalculation emerged the Digital Witch, a synthetic apex predator bent on the extinction of mankind.
“When we first wrote this song, we jokingly named it VIAGRABOT. Initially that name stuck and I put together some ridiculous lyrics for it based on some vague idea about an AI-powered erectile dysfunction pill. Somehow we then got the idea in our heads that it would sound really sick with Jello Biafra singing on a verse, so I wrote to him and pitched the idea, but never heard back. But that’s ok because it was, in hindsight, VERY dumb. After a while we decided it didn’t really make sense in the context of the album overall so that’s when the Tarantula lyrics started to come together.”
