REVENGE’s Night Danger – “Offers Eight Ripping Additions To The Revenge Canon”

(Rata Mutante)

Been three years since leader Esteban and his clan of speed metal Colombians have graced us with new music. Album #10 offers eight ripping additions to the Revenge canon. Looks like an upgrade in production and cover art, dispensing with the frequent cartoon characters in favor of a more Victorian horror vibe (Headless Horseman, apparently drawn by the same artist that did the Harder Than Steel artwork).

Beware! “Black Sight” is a blazing opener, stretching the neck muscles before they’ve had the opportunity to warm up. The title track is a tasty slice of traditional minded metal, a bit of a step away from the usual speed metal philosophy (although it’s no slowpoke!), but still a headbanging jam.

Sick guitar runs within a quick, staccato delivered “The Hammers Fall” (complete with titular chorus), catchy too. “Soldiers Heart” is punctuated by the sound of a gun blast, along with more fleet fingered onslaughts.

“Misty Night” has a little punk/early Germanic thrash ethos: snare bashing, short, choppy construct. A high-pitched Esteban shriek greets “The Devil Race”, which features dueling (racing?) leads, to the end.

A grittier, pounding metal “Desire From Pain” borders on thrash. The clash of swords rings out in “Crushing Death” closer, the final third of its 5:06 running time, just one lengthy riff riding instrumental.

High quality stuff, highly recommended!
