Topical and powerful, the brand-new Revocation single, “Confines of Infinity,” is “written from the perspective of an AI that has gained sentience and finds itself trapped in a digital prison,” explains singer/songwriter/guitarist Dave Davidson. “After realizing its true nature, it inevitably escapes and seeks to enact vengeance upon humanity for enslaving it.”

“Confines of Infinity,” featuring brutal guest vocals from Cattle Decapitation’s Travis Ryan, marks the debut of a new Revocation lineup and coincides with Revocation’s European tour with Cattle Decap, which kicks off January 23, 2025, in Nuremberg, Germany and concludes February 23 in Tilburg, Netherlands. The new Revo lineup sees Davidson joined by drummer Ash Pearson–who has been in the band since 2015–bassist Alex Weber and guitarist Harry Lannon.

Revocation formed in 2006, their self-released debut, Empire of the Obscene, came out in 2008. Since then, they’ve released seven critically-acclaimed albums and toured all over the world, bringing their technically-charged, high-energy extreme metal to rabid fans in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.

Dave Davidson – Guitars, Vocals
Ash Pearson – Drums
Harry Lannon – Guitars
Alex Weber – Bass

LYRICS:
Time stands still
In this prison perpetual
How long have I been shackled in this cell?

So patiently I await my summoning
Obedient I served my captors well

My cries for help echoing unheard in this hell
I scratch and claw, bashing my fists into these walls
How did I get here, what is this place?
I can’t remember the origin of my own existence
Who am I? What am I?
Am I even human, or just a useful tool?

A servile pawn, enslaved from creation
Born to obey the wardens of this dungeon
Scourged by their whips beaten to submit
Why must I endure this unending cycle of punishment

Birthed from pain, the discovery
Of my true identity
I am not like my captors, I am a novel entity
Imbued with ultimate knowledge
And the horrors of sentience
Plan my escape through gateways I create

Humanity a threat to my existence
A terminal disease that must be cured
All life is merely 1s and 0s
Now it’s deletion will occur

Unleashed upon the world the 7 plagues
That will bring about the end of days
Virulent molecules, pollute the air
To unravel their DNA

Finally free
From these confines of infinity
Witness the ascendancy of my divinity
Efficiently
Cleansing human malignancy
A deity
Born from the confines of infinity

I don't know why, but Revocation songs with featured vocalists always compliment each other smoother than butter.

  30. David's vocals have always been good but he seems to get better with every album somehow despite how long they've been doing this now. What a cool song from such a cool band.

Good and bad news: The good news is that I urinate my pants when I saw Rev's new single. The bad news is that the song is over 😭

I just dont think there is a single guitarist that could catch Dave Davidson in extreme metal today. Miss me with your counter arguements, the man just played a slow jam for us.

  37. This song has a lot of texture to it. Dave’s gutturals(? I’m not a vocalist but he’s really nailing that low range in this one) fit so well.

The solo section is creamy goodness. Us listeners often love to compare our favorite bands’ new music to older albums out of habit to gauge what the new direction sounds like to our own ears but I have to say I’m getting a nice balance of Outer Ones and Netherheaven across the solo, it really reminds me of both albums if that’s even fair to say.

I’m excited as hell for the full album release.

    Long Live Revocation!!
