In a recent conversation with Andrés Durán of El Expreso Del Rock, JUDAS PRIEST drummer Scott Travis was asked why the band chooses not to perform any tracks from the two albums recorded with vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens — 1997’s Jugulator and 2001’s Demolition.
“I just think it’s not something Rob [Halford, PRIEST vocalist] really wants to do, and I totally understand that,” Scott responded (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). “And the other thing is, with JUDAS PRIEST, we have so many great songs to play, it’s impossible to get to get ’em all in because, as you know, in concert, we’re always gonna have to play ‘[You’ve Got] Another Thing Comin” and ‘Living After Midnight’, ‘Breaking The Law’, ‘[The] Green Manalishi [With the Two Pronged Crown]’, ‘Victim Of Changes’ — you’re always gonna have to play those classics. ‘Cause as soon as you don’t play those, then people are screaming, ‘Why didn’t you play this song or that song?’ So you have to do those, and then you’ve only got so much time left to squeeze the other songs in during a live set. So, to be honest, there’s really just not time. And so we just decided to not mess with it.”
Back in 2019, Halford said that he is open to perform songs written and recorded during the years when JUDAS PRIEST was fronted by his replacement, Tim “Ripper” Owens.
“Why not? Those records, Jugulator and Demolition, are both part of the great history of JUDAS PRIEST,” Halford told Metal Hammer at the time. “And Tim is a good friend of mine. I’ve never done any of the songs that he sang on, but I’d definitely have a crack at them.
“I’m up for that. When? It could happen at any time; it wouldn’t need to be an anniversary. Before we go onstage, we have a jam, and that’s time when ideas from leftfield are thrown around. That’s probably how we’ll do it. It’ll just happen and it’ll be brilliant.”
