Speaking to Metal Hammer Germany, Andreas Kisser discussed SEPULTURA‘s ongoing farewell tour, which began in 2024.
When asked where SEPULTURA‘s final concert will take place, Andreas said: “We are planning to do a very big show in São Paulo, Brazil, or in Belo Horizonte. We’re still balancing these ideas. But at the end of 2026, we’d like to do this last show. We’d like to stretch [out the tour]. There’s no reason for us to stop in a hurry just because we announced [the] last [tour] two years ago or so.
“We had a great time last year. This year is already looking great…. We’re doing Lollapalooza in South America — Brazil, Argentina and Chile. We have a few shows in Central America, a few festivals this year in Europe, a few special concerts. In 2026 we’d like to do all the big festivals and finish in Brazil.”
In an interview with Reality Check TV earlier this year at NAMM convention in Anaheim, California, Kisser was once again asked about the possibility of reuniting with original frontman Max Cavalera and drummer Igor Cavalera for a final performance to conclude the band’s ongoing farewell tour.
“I hope so,” Andreas responded. “The idea is to do a very last show [in 2026] in São Paulo, Brazil, where we have all the guests, friends to celebrate our history.”
“There’s no reason to be fighting,” he continued. “We just go on stage, enjoy ourselves. We know how to play the songs. It’s gonna be a party for the fans. Forty years of history, it’s a lot — many albums, many different changes and different styles of music. And it’s gonna be an amazing party — I hope so — and hopefully everybody will be a part [of it].”
In a last year’s conversation with Moshpit Passion, Kisser extended an invitation to all the band’s former members to participate in their final performance. This invitation specifically included Max and Igor Cavalera.
“Who knows? Everything is possible,” Andreas said at the time. “We did three big shows in São Paulo [Brazil] before we went to the States. And we recorded the whole show — the cameras, DVD and stuff. Of course, this stuff that we’re recording for the live album is audio only. And we are planning to have the last farewell show in São Paulo in 2026, so we like to go places, we like to visit places that we’ve never been before. We like to do our goodbye in a relaxed mood — no hurry. There’s no reason really to rush anything. We are enjoying the moment so much. We are celebrating the momentum. It’s fantastic. It’s amazing. So it’s something that is gonna be on the recording as well, this great vibe, the connection we have with the crowd and stuff. But, yeah, everything is possible. I mean, of course, the last show, [it] would be great to have a register. We like to invite all the ex-members, including the brothers, Cavalera brothers. Let’s see what happens. We’re working towards that, to have a big celebration for the fans.”
During a previous interview with Metal Injection, Max Cavalera shared his thoughts on SEPULTURA reunion rumors, saying: “My insight about the whole thing is I’m kind of surprised by it, you know,” Max said. “As far as a reunion – I wanted to reunite with my brother and that’s what he also said a long time ago when we first got together. So to me that was the real reunion, me and him, and we did that and it’s opened the doors for all these re-recordings and playing, all these records. It is so cool the way we’re doing them.
“We have like an unwritten rule between me and Igor, like we’re gonna do this thing now differently than how we did it back then, because back then there was a lot of drama and stress that we didn’t like, and a lot of political stuff,” he continued. “So it was like, if we’re gonna do it now, we’re gonna do it for the love of it, you know for the pure enjoyment of the thing. That’s how we’ve been doing all these years, with all these tours and recordings and everything.
“So for me, there’s not really a reason to go back to SEPULTURA. I know it would be back to more stress and stuff that I don’t really need in my life, man, and I think us playing live, and even having like Travis and Igor Amadeus with us is so badass because they connect with the younger generation. Yeah, I don’t see a need to do a reunion and I think more than ever now, especially now that they’re gonna disband. The band is done and me and Igor will get to keep doing what we want with CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, which is SEPULTURA in itself.
When pressed whether there’s any chance of reunion with SEPULTURA happening, Max offered: “The more the time passes by, the more I feel that I don’t need to. Like I said, the real reunion is between myself and Igor, and I did that. It’s pure magic and amazing what we’re doing right now. You kind of have to realize if we end up doing a SEPULTURA reunion, it’s almost like we can’t go back to the CAVALERA thing, You know? It won’t really make sense. People probably will be like “I don’t want to go watch CAVALERA if they’re doing a “real” reunion. To me, I don’t want to do that because I love what we have here in CAVALERA now. It’s so Bad a*s. So yeah, it’s definitely out of the question.
Max Cavalera left SEPULTURA in 1996 after the rest of the band split with his wife Gloria as their manager. His brother Igor stuck around with the group for another 10 years before leaving SEPULTURA and re-teaming with Max in CAVALERA CONSPIRACY.
SEPULTURA began its farewell tour on March 1, 2024, at Arena Hall in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The sold-out concert marked the band’s first performance with drummer Greyson Nekrutman, formerly of SUICIDAL TENDENCIES.
