SLIPKNOT‘s “Knotfest Australia” tour has begun without two members of the Crahan family. The band’s percussionist, M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan, was absent from last night’s opening show in Melbourne, Australia. Similarly, his son Simon, drummer of VENDED, has also stepped away from the tour due to a ‘family emergency.’
Although SLIPKNOT has remained silent, VENDED, one of the tour’s opening bands, issued a following statement:
“Australia
Unfortunately due to a family emergency Simon will not be performing with us in Australia.
We will continue with a fill in drummer for the next few shows thank you for understanding, see you soon.
Vended“
Despite being a founding member and influential leader of SLIPKNOT, Crahan revealed a surprising vulnerability in a recent Knotfest interview. The percussionist confessed to feeling undervalued, struggling with the perception that his musical contributions are overlooked.
“I’ve had a rough twenty-five years trying to reassure myself that anything I do is really important,” Crahan said. “Because I don’t have people asking me about my album covers. I never have people ask me about my videos. Eloy [Casagrande, new SLIPKNOT drummer] is up for drummer of the year. No one in twenty-five years, including Modern Drummer, has asked me about the keg.”
Additionally, Crahan mentioned that as part of his New Year’s resolution, he would work on changing his mindset.
Crahan said: “2025 I’m going to work on ‘No Complaining.’ Just not going to do it anymore. I realized my expectations are never going to be met. So I need to give myself a break. It’s probably the last part of ego I need to work on. That way I can just float.”
