Fans of SYSTEM OF A DOWN were surprised and disappointed this week to discover that the band’s landmark album Toxicity has been removed from Spotify. The six-time multi-platinum release, widely considered one of the most influential nu metal albums of the early 2000s, is currently unavailable on the platform.
While Toxicity has vanished from Spotify, it remains accessible on other major streaming services such as Apple Music and YouTube Music. Interestingly, some of the album’s most popular tracks—like “Chop Suey!” and “Aerials”—can still be found on Spotify through alternate EPs and compilation albums, though the complete album experience is currently missing.
At the time of writing, SYSTEM OF A DOWN has not made an official statement regarding the album’s removal. However, industry insiders suggest that temporary takedowns of older major label releases can occur for a variety of reasons. These may include updates to licensing agreements, distribution changes, or rights disputes that need to be resolved before an album can be reinstated.
For now, fans are left waiting and hoping that Toxicity will return to Spotify soon—especially as it remains one of the band’s most beloved and defining works.
In the meantime, SYSTEM OF A DOWN has launched their highly anticipated “Wake Up! South America” tour—their first run of South American shows since 2015. The nine-stop tour kicked off on April 24 in Bogotá, Colombia at Estadio Nemésio Camacho El Campín and will continue through Peru, Chile, and Argentina, before concluding with five performances in Brazil across Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo.
SYSTEM OF A DOWN will also tour North America beginning with two nights at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on August 27-28, featuring special guests KORN. The tour will then move to Soldier Field in Chicago for shows on August 31 and September 1 with AVENGED SEVENFOLD, and conclude at Rogers Stadium in Toronto on September 3 and September 5 with DEFTONES.
