The Light That Burns the Sky Review

The Light That Burns the Sky Review

“The Light That Burns the Sky” is a really cool tittle for an album. It reflects a poetic license Arion desired to show their fans. Discussing its philosophically means, it might be a lot of things from many points of view. Maybe, from the band’s point of view it might mean their wish to contrast a hard Power Metal with some Symphonic Metal nuances with vocals that are pop oriented. Or maybe Arion desire to redeem themselves for this kind of use. Well, just a wild guess…

It is clear to me the album tittle reflects its message to the songs. Of course, if I follow my thesis of the deliberate contrast I aforementioned. Out of all the two thesis I brought, I guess Arion deal with two main dilemmas; one of them is how to bounce the hard knocking guitars – yes, they are heavy, take “Black Swan,” for instance – with the wish to sound more accessible – let’s use this term. The other dilemma is how to deal with their prone to grandness without sounding so presumptuous – hard one if I may. Tittle track “The Light That Burns the Sky” may be the one to explain this one.

I cannot deny Arion’s music is complex and full of larger than life technical strategies. The team here is tight and they are playing as hell from the guitars to the bass getting to the drumming, which might be one of the best I have heard with its incredible fillings. Iron Maiden’s “Where Eagles Dare” immeadiately comes to my mind. It’s impossible to say musically “The Light That Burns the Sky” is not good. Great is term that could pop up as well. Take a look at grand finale’s “Into the Hands of Fate” instrumentals, more notably when the guitars and the drums double up. So amazing. Then comes the dilemma in the form of the vocals that bounce from a very harsh one to a pop one. I’d rather listen only to the harsh, but I do understand Arion’s dilemma. It’s part of their signature. All the songs have such strong choruses that it is almost impossible not to singalong. That’s Arion’s idea.

I cannot deny Arion’s balls either by sticking to their beliefs and trying to solve their dilemmas. I really liked the way the guitars and the drums double and perform together. The heavyness they bring into the music is something really unbelievable. Not an easy thing to see. As philosopher Dee Snider from Twisted Sisters University would say “Make some noise!”
