The Mars Volta played their first show of 2025 last night, February 25 at the Moda Center in Portland, OR alongside headliners Deftones and openers Fleshwater. Deftones dusted off two tracks they haven’t played in a while, but The Mars Volta did them one better and played a whole new album that nobody even knew existed.
No seriously, The Mars Volta played a whole 18-song set that was just a new record. Zero other songs. Here’s the full setlist that means nothing to anyone:
- “Fin”
- “Reina tormenta”
- “Enlazan las tinieblas”
- “Mictlán”
- “Nefilbata”
- “Cue the Sun”
- “Alba del orate”
- “Voice in My Knives”
- “Poseedora de mi sombra”
- “Celaje”
- “Vociferó”
- “Mito de los trece cielos”
- “Un disparo al vacío”
- “Detrás de la puerta dorada”
- “Maullidos”
- “Morgana”
- “Cue the Sun (Reprise)”
- “Lucro sucio”
Credit to The Mars Volta for being plenty busy since their reunion in 2022. The band released their self-titled album that same year, a complete acoustic re-imagining of that album in 2023 called Que Dios Te Maldiga Mi Corazón, and debuted their documentary Omar and Cedric: If This Ever Gets Weird in several theaters across the U.S. The PRP seems to think The Mars Volta‘s next album is due out April 11. We’ll see what happens.
