The Weekly Injection: New Releases From KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SPY & More Out This Week 2/21

This week’s new heavy metal releases include evil circus music, metalcore mastery, and more! To the metals…

Killswitch Engage – This Consequence

The Weekly Injection: New Releases From KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SPY & More Out This Week 2/21

Genre: Metalcore
Origin: Westfield, Massachusetts –
Label: Metal Blade

At times when things are weird and tensions are high I feel like an anthemic metalcore record hits just right, and here is the perfect hit. KsE’s first full-length in six years is as melodic, catchy, heavy, and powerful as you’d hope. Adam D and the boys still got it.

Gaytheist – The Mustache Stays

The Weekly Injection: New Releases From KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SPY & More Out This Week 2/21

Genre: Hardcore/noise rock
Origin: Portland, Oregon
Label: Hex Records

Buy now on Bandcamp

Like KsE, the latest from Gaytheist comes after a lengthy break and a also like Killswitch this feels like a joyous record. If you want sludgy riffs, you’ll be happy. If you want happy heaviness, they’ve got you too.

Melvins/Napalm Death – Savage Imperial Death March

The Weekly Injection: New Releases From KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SPY & More Out This Week 2/21

Genre: Sludge/grindcore
Origin: Montesano, Washington/Birmingham, West Midlands, England
Label: AmRep Records

This is sort of a weird one to write about. This was announced late last week and has already sold out. It’s not on streaming or anything as of this recording, but it’s “released” as far as I can tell. Anyway, this is a six track collaboration (the store page emphasizes NOT a split) between the two bands.

Retromorphosis – Psalmus Mortis

The Weekly Injection: New Releases From KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SPY & More Out This Week 2/21

Genre: Death metal
Origin: Sweden
Label: Season Of Mist

Buy now on Bandcamp

Next up some grade-A, no bullshit death metal. This is aggressive and nasty as hell. If you’re a fan of THAT divebomb guitar technique and everything around it, this will be your jam.

Seventh Station – On Shoulders Of Giants

The Weekly Injection: New Releases From KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SPY & More Out This Week 2/21

Genre: Progressive metal
Origin: Slovenia
Label: Layered Reality Productions

Buy now on Bandcamp

This is a wild one. On this EP, Seventh Station are putting their spin on themes by 20th century classical composers. I have to admit that I’m totally ignorant to the source material, but the result sounds like Mr. Bungle/Secret Chiefs 3 colliding with Liquid Tension Experiment. Very much my shit.

Stinky – Solace

The Weekly Injection: New Releases From KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SPY & More Out This Week 2/21

Genre: Hardcore/metalcore
Origin: Nantes, France
Label: M-Theory

Buy now on Bandcamp

The band’s name got my attention here, but what I heard is pretty solid. This is the kind of band that should appeal to fans of both early Bad Omens and Comeback Kid. They’ve got a couple friends with them like Lou Koller from Sick of It All and Andrew Neufeld of the aforementioned Comeback Kid.

Spy – Seen Enough

The Weekly Injection: New Releases From KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SPY & More Out This Week 2/21

Genre: Hardcore
Origin: Bay Area, California
Label: Closed Casket Activities

Buy now on Bandcamp

Closing this week out with a brief but fulfilling hardcore bludgeoning. These six tracks will have you picking up your teeth.
